In an exclusive to Amusement Today, officials at G. Martin & A. Vleminckx Amusement, Ltd. have confirmed that the Montreal-based company will build China’s first wooden roller. The ride is currently slated to open during the 2009 season.
The recipient of the country’s first wooden coaster is Overseas Chinese Town, a new park being constructed in Sheshan, Songjiang, Shanghai. The coaster will be situated on an island near the park’s main entrance. As guest pass through the front gate, the ride’s structure will appear as a bamboo curtain.

Terminator trains arrive

The LA Times Travel Blog recently posted pictures of Six Flags Magic Mountian’s Terminator Salvation coasters trains. I believe this is the first time I’ve ever seen diamond plate on a coaster. It looks awesome. On the other hand, I hate the molded sides. I think they look cheap and out of place. They would of looked better as more diamond plate or some type of brushed aluminum.

El Toro: New GCI opening at Freizeitpark Plohn in Germany

This new beauty from GCI is slated to open on April 10, 2009. We bring you a testing video care of GCI. The coaster features a length of 2460ft, a height of 90ft, a top speed of 47mph, and 2 tunnels that travel under a log flume. Love what they say at the end “…and that is the real El Toro.” I love me a GCI any day of the week, but I don’t think it’ll top the original El Toro.

Terminator update

West Coaster Bash was held last week and from the sound of it, it was a blast. During construction tours given of Terminator Salvation: The Ride a lot of great information was shared. A few videos have appeared that show the full talk that was given.
I’m 3000 miles away from SFMM and I’m a bit excited to see what they are going to do with the coaster. The layout looks fun, but the bigger thing is the theme they are going to be putting into the coaster. How exactly are …

According to this article on the LA Travel Blog SFMM will be announcing the Terminator sometime this week. This coaster will be replacing Psyclone, which was dismantled several years ago (thank God!).  The new woodie will be a GCI (as a lot of them seem to be these days) and feature a station fly through. Other notables are the Millennium Flyer trains and the 100 ft. stature.
I have got to say that this looks like a solid addition for Magic Mountain. My only concern is capacity, but with all of …

Cedar Fair is at it again with another new wooden coaster. This beast is called Prowler and will be located in the Africa section of WOF. Prowler is essentially a new take an an out and back coaster.
Unlike out and back coasters of old, Prowler hugs the ground for the majority of the ride and seems to have very few airtime moments. In my opinion most out and back coasters seem to have a lot of hills associated with them. It’s a nice contrast and I think it will work …
