New games are-a-coming to Toy Story’s Midway Mania according to a post on Blue Sky Disney, the popular insider Disney blog. With the release of Toy Story 3 coming this Summer, Toy Story Mania is to go down for a couple of weeks and pop back up with brand new games. Apparently, it IS that easy. According to the article, Disney had Don Rickles (the voice of Mr. Potato Head) record several bits for holiday overlays, like Christmas. So you can see the Nightmare Before Christmas at Disneyland and then hear …

The popular Rock Band game is going to be landing at several Cedar Fair parks for this upcoming season. Clearly competing with the Guitar Hero using Six Flags, Cedar Fair plans to operate it in the same way – a competition of sorts between guests. You can find all the pertinent details here, but I want to talk about the idea of video games in amusement parks in general.
Ever since I was a pretty young kid, maybe around eight or nine, I was puzzled by the other kids that would …

Captain EO is back, and he is here to change the world. Through song. Well, it IS the 80s after all. So all kitsch is not counted against Captain EO, and may in fact help its cause. Centering on a “rag-tag band” that goes on dangerous missions, saving one world at a time… Well… You get the idea. George Lucas was one of the Executive Producers and it shows. Many a Star Wars reference abound, most of which were not easter eggs, and the 3D and other special effects are …

Captain EO debuts at Disneyland today, according to the Disneyland Twitter account. A line began forming at 12 this morning and the ride is now open to all those eager (crazy) Michael Jackson fans. There is still no word on the possibility of the ride coming to Walt Disney World but the rumors say that it all depends on the success of Captain EO at Disneyland.
Do I think it will be a success? Of course.
Does this mean that I am excited to see it? Not at all.
If it was up …

New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg announced the future of the new Luna park (one of the most famous parks of the early Coney Island regime – I wrote a paper which did hold a large focus on this park which you can read here: Pop Culture in 1900 FINAL) which included over twenty new rides and a total package of thirty million dollars in renovations. You can read an article at length here. It’s a bit of a long read, although much of it is spent (wasted, in my mind) …

DateLine Disney’s Twitter account said that Captain EO would be open for Cast Member testing tomorrow. This is generally a sign that the attraction is in its final stages and will be opening soon. So many speculated that the ride would be opening up for Valentine’s Day weekend (because Michael Jackson just screams romance, right?). However, a quote from Al Lutz states that this is likely not the case.
“Hundreds of Disneyland Cast Members will be testing Captain EO on Friday afternoon, but don’t expect it to open this weekend as …

For those of you that have seen it, especially if you were a kid at the time, The Electrical Parade is a masterpiece. And even if you have become jaded in recent years, it likely still holds a special place in your heart. If you fit into this group, and live in the Orlando area, it is time to rejoice. According to the Disney Parks twitter account, The Electrical Parade is going to return to Walt Disney World this Summer. And if you live in the Los Angeles area, you’re …

Carowinds Twitter account has announced that the Intimidator roller coaster has completed its first test run successfully. The video can be seen right here.
It looks like a nice roller coaster, I have always thought so, but it really doesn’t have a lot of “oomph” while going through its course. Of course it was only the first run, and I understand that things change as the ride heats up (it looked especially cold there in the video) so I’ll withhold any true judgment until then.
In any event, it looks like a …

While certainly not headline news, a great new website for the Wizarding World of Harry Potter has gone live. The new land will be going into Islands of Adventure this Spring according to a new promo video on the site. It also features a spectacular interactive map and a news section where you can see what is going on now, and what is coming soon.
When this project was first announced I was moderately excited, being a big Harry Potter fan. However as the opening comes sooner and sooner, I wish …

It is a new year, I have a Disneyland pass and go to school just down the road from Anaheim. I am at school three days a week until one, so there is very little reason for me to not swing by Disneyland after school on Friday to unwind. So my first, of probably many visits to come was taken on Friday and I’ll share what I saw and experienced with you on a semi-weekly basis. I don’t want to get caught up in heralding this as a consistent “weekly” …
