Harry Potter Coming to IOA

Well if you missed the big news this week, IOA announced a new expansion, dubbed “a theme park within a theme park.” You can read the official press release here. The pictures that are given in the release are a bit vague. Our friend Mike has come up with a few concept drawings of his own on how the area will be laid out and how they will fit into the existing park. I then to believe that his ideas are dead on, but take a look for yourself.

Knott’s Great America name change update

According to RCDB the name of the park is indeed changing. If you look at the Great America page it is titled Knott’s Great America. It also indicates that the name change too place in 2007. We are just waiting on an official announcement on this, but if RCDB has it up, I have no trouble believing that it is going to happen. In our original post on this story the domain (that’s the web address) redirected to Great America’s current page. So with these two pieces of evidence, I’m sold on the fact that Great America is changing it’s name to Knott’s Great America.

Knotts Great America?

Well it seems as if Cedar Fair has purchased www.knottsgreatamerica.com and it redirects you to the Great America page. The park was named Paramount Great America before Cedar Fair bought the chain and dropped the Paramount from all of the park names. This is interesting because it shows possible problems with the Great America name. Six Flags also has a Great America park. Interestingly enough, both “Knotts” Great America and Six Flags Great America were both owned and operated by Marriott, when they were in the amusement park business.

I don’t know how I feel about the “Knotts” name being used on other parks, it seems like a quick fix to me. I am sure that the “Knotts” name is recognized across California, not only as an amusement park but also as a food producer. We will see if and and an announcement is made about a name change.

Johnny Rockets to come to Six Flags?

Johnny RocketsAccording to the New York Times, RedZone Capital, which is run my Daniel Snyder, is set to acquire the Johnny Rockets restaurant chain. Daniel Snyder as we know bought Six Flags last year. Now the question comes in; will Johnny Rockets be coming to Six Flags? They will have the same owner, and Six Flags parks are a great outlet for any food chain. It has to be only a matter of time before these restaurants start popping up at Six Flags. Johnny Rockets already provides the perfect park food; burgers and fries.

According to the article, Snyder plans to expand the chain from 200 spots to over 1,000. He also stated that he plans on bringing the chain inside FedEx Field, where the Redskins play, and Six Flags parks. So that makes the answer to my previous question obvious.  It is just a matter of time before Johnny Rockets is at a Six Flags near you.

SheiKra To Go Floorless

“Florida’s best ride is about to raise the rush.”  Later this week Busch Gardens Africa will be announcing their new plans for their biggest coaster.  Sometime this year, the Tampa, Florida park is going to receive a pretty major upgrade. This upgrade will make it’s trains floorless to match Busch Gardens Europe’s Griffon. The major construction for this to happen will of course be in the station which will have to feature the unique load/ unload platform other floorless coasters have.
