Four days ago, I wrote a post about Theme Park Insider’s Best Roller Coaster In America bracket of their larger Best Ride/Show In America tournament. Today, the 16 seeds for the best Themed Ride in America were posted on Theme Park Insider, and as promised I will open another poll so that you can select your top three nominees. There was a great turn out for the last poll, and I hope to continue the trend with this one. So, without any further delay…

With Cedar Fair leading Six Flags in our Six Flags vs. Cedar Fair poll I thought it would be appropriate to honor Cedar Fair first with Coasterdom’s first ever “Profile of the Week”. In an effort to educate those who really like roller coasters, but aren’t super nerds (they don’t know what they’re missing) I will write one of these every Sunday (God willing). I am hoping that these posts will become a reference guide of sorts so that while reading a post when someone doesn’t understand what a term …

For the most part, every enthusiast is familiar with the two titular amusement park companies Six Flags and Cedar Fair. And any enthusiast worth their salt knows that the battle between the two regional chains is never ending, and filled with animosity. However it has come to my attention by way of comments made to me by friends and readers that not everyone is familiar with this rivalry, nor are they really familiar with the companies in question (well, mostly Cedar Fair). So, to remedy this situation, I am going to …

Theme Park Insider’s Best Attraction In America Tournament will be kicking off this Thursday, and during the countdown, Robert Niles (TPI’s head honcho) has been releasing a new seed of one of the four brackets every day. Today, he finished off the roller coaster bracket with the #1 seed: Millennium Force. While some (including myself) will grind their teeth, there is still hope. Check out the sixteen seeds below to see just who Millennium Force will be up against.
1. Cedar Point’s Millennium Force [Intamin Giga/Mega]
2. Busch Gardens Williamsburg’s Apollo’s Chariot [Bolliger & …

According to a story that was run on Theme Park Insider earlier today, a news article was posted on St. Louis Today’s website today about Legoland looking for some sweet tax breaks in the Glen Carbon area. Now I’m sure you’re wondering where in the world Glen Carbon, Illinois is. I know I was, so I looked it up on Google Maps and found… this:
So as you can see, Carbondale is a suburb outside of St. Louis, much like Carlsbad (The location of the first U.S. Legoland park) is …

October 2nd, 2009. The Sun sets on Universal Studios Hollywood, and fog begins to pour inside the park. The actors creep outside of the backstage area and wait for the guests to start trickling through their area. Soon screams and shrieks fill the air – Halloween Horror Nights 2009 has begun.
This year an eviction notice was slipped to Freddy, Jason and Leatherface and they have been replaced with Michael Myers, Jigsaw, Chucky and Harry Warden. Ushering in a new wave of terror with four new mazes, an all new Terror …

These days it is becoming increasingly prevalent on large roller coasters to include an on board audio system, ala California Screamin’, Revenge of the Mummy: The Ride, The Time Machine (Led Zeppelin) and Hollywood: Rip, Rockit and Ride. Such a feature is a fantastic advertising point, as seen on H:RRR. By selling the different genres available to listen to while experiencing an already intense looking roller coaster merely raises the value and sell factor of any thrill ride.
However, I have bumped into a few people over the years that are …

The Big Bad Wolf, a classic Arrow suspended coaster currently located at Busch Gardens Williamsburg permanently closes tomorrow. Always hailed as one of the best of its kind, The Big Bad Wolf features fantastic terrain interaction with close calls near both scenery and the famous Rhine river. We here at Coasterdom wish to pay tribute to this classic coaster, one that has been familiar to me since I was ten years old. I am very sad I never got a chance to ride this coaster, and truly envy those that …

Check out that park you’d been dying to get to?
