Geauga Lake to be waterpark only

Geauga LakeCedar Fair announced today that the rides side of Geauga Lake will be closing completely, and as of the 2008 season the park will be a water park only.

From the article:

As part of the changeover to exclusively water park attractions, a number of the rides at Geauga Lake will be introduced at other Cedar Fair parks.

The property not necessary for the operation of the water park is being reviewed for other uses and development.

All I have to say is this is very disappointing news from a historical perspective. They better save those wood coasters.

New Site Design

I finally got around to finishing the new site design and uploading it. In addition to the new design the site was upgraded to the latest version of WordPress. Feel free to discuss the design here or on the forums, and if you find any problems let me know.

Six Flags Great Adventure: What the…?

A new aerial update of Six Flags Great Adventure was posted yesterday by “Flyin’ Phil” on his site. The update can be seen here.

The update shows some interesting things going on at the park. As seen in the last update, Stuntman’s Freefall is gone, and the Riptide log flume ride is almost completely gone. Some additional random work is going on in the parking lot. Oh, and the zero-g was taken off Chiller. It’s still a mystery what’s going on with the ride, ever since its incident with a wheel assembly failure last season. Right now it is unknown whether the removal of the zero-g’s is related to that incident or not, or what will be taking their place. I’m quite interested to see what comes out of this.

What stood out to me in this update was something very odd. Check out picture 11. A Nitro train at the bottom of the lift… in January? I’m very interested by this… what’s going on over there? First of all, it is a bit too cold out for a coaster to be running. At this time of year trains would be expected to be off the track, undergoing rehab anyway. Not to mention if Nitro is like other B&Ms, that particular spot is one of the worst places for an E-Stop/Ride Stop/Lift Stop to be done as it is a pain to restart. Anyone know what’s going on here?
