Avatar – Coming To A Theme Park Near You?
I just returned from the midnight showing of Avatar at my local theater (one owned by Apollo Management in fact. If you’re not sure what I mean, click here: http://www.coasterdom.com/2009/12/16/cedar-fair-is-going-going-sold/) and was completely blown away. This film is a game changer, and may very well be my generation’s Star Wars. Now, that being said, and if my assumption that this movie is going to be huge is correct, will we see Pandora represented at Universal Studios or Disneyland?
Now, assuming my assumption is true (I know, we’re getting deep into hypothetical land here) I would imagine Universal Studios is the obvious choice. Disney isn’t too big on inviting other brands in, Star Wars being the exception to the rule. Universal on the other hand, had no problem pulling in the Fox franchise “The Simpson’s” to replace an existing attraction from one of their brands.
Imagine this, walking along paths lit up with the Pandoran plant life that lights up when you touch it. Or perhaps even something as simple as a pathway lit from beneath with artificial plants that glow in the dark. Imagine a flying roller coaster similar to Tatsu themed after the Banshees that the Na’vi ride. Or perhaps a racing roller coaster themed to the “horses” that are seen in the film.
The possibilities are endless. From new rides, to new shows to a completely new and revolutionary immersive experience, Avatar could change the way themed lands are created. And if not, it would certainly make a heck of an addition to any existing theme park looking to expand.
For those of you who have seen the movie, would you be interested in taking a trip to Pandora? Because after seeing all the gorgeous visuals the film had to offer, I sure as hell would.

I would sure as hell love to step into Pandora as well. As long as I don’t have to wear a gasmask haha. I would love to see Avatar replications pop-up. I’m sure Disney would jump right on that.
I thought the same thing. Especially after remembering that Fox has already brought American Idol to Walt Disney World.
However, I see Universal Studios as a more likely candidate due to the kind of attractions and areas they tend to build.
Avatar just cracked 1 billion dollars, so I think it’s safe to say that it is a marketable property.
