RCT anyone?
As I am in the process of packing up all of my things for my move to Texas I came across all of my old RCT stuff. I have everything from the orginal to RCT3. I never bothered to get any expansion packs aside from the first series. I remember how much I loved the game when I got it and how great RCT2 was.
Then RCT3 came out and it was a huge bust in my book. The graphics were too cartoony, the game took forever to load, and moving around was always a pain for me. Maybe I didn’t play it enough, but it didn’t make me want to play it. RCT was relased on October 26th. 2004, almost five years ago! Don’t you think it is time for this thing to get another lease on life.
If I had my way the graphics would be toned back down and a 3D environment that you can walk in. Maybe something similar to Sim City 4 (I also hope they come out with a new one of those). RCT3 didn’t have any realism that the first two games had and it just killed it. The waterpark expansion was awesome, even though I never bought it. I really want to see the series brought back as it really helped foster some coaster fans and that whole time frame was very exciting.
If a RCT4 was made, what features would you include and how would it look and feel?

I heard there was a big hooplah between Chris Sawyer and Atari about Sawyer (The creator) not getting royalty checks anymore. Last I heard he was taking Atari to court? Can anyone confirm this?
I really liked a lot about RCT3 – the scenery was SO much easier to build, and the new elements were nice as well. However the lag was an issue, especially on an older computer like mine.
I play RCT3 every once in awhile, but it’s just for fun. I don’t see playing it after I graduate High School though.
It will be interesting to see what happens after we mark the 5th anniversary of RCT3 and 10 years of the game at the end of this year. As an Administrator of a RCT fansite, the game is still popular, although not as much as it used to be. There seems to be only a few large RCT fansites now. Back in the day, there were at least 10 RCT fansites with more than 500 members. I’m expecting to see the end of RCT being popular in about another 5 years. Unless they can come out with another version that’s even more powerful and efficient than RCT3, yet it can be modified with Custom Scenery and Rides, people will get bored. Death to the RCT fansites, but we’re not in for the money. We’re just here to give people a place to talk and share.
I thought RCT3 was pretty good; only the ‘peeps’ looked cartoony but it fit the game I thought. My only real gripe was with the bloated game engine which would make large parks almost unbearable to play unless you have a load of RAM and a good graphics card.
Thanks for the useful info. It’s so interesting
I still enjoy RCT 3 with the expansion packs and the downloadable custom scenery. Overall I thought they did a good job with the game. I would have preferred the older style of building pathways but the ability to ride everything in 3D was a major step up from the previous two intallments. I think the next game, if they make one, should have two different games in it. One would be the usual RCT format of beating scenarios and creating custom parks in sandbox mode. The other game would be to create a peep and beat scenarios a little like Thrillville, but also be able to tour your sandbox created park from a first person perspective.
I don’t think that RCT3 is as good as the other 2. My fave is RCT2 by far.
I think an RCT4 should be released but in a different style to RCT3.
If RCT4 isn’t released, RCT will die out pretty soon.
