Nate, coasters, marriage? Part 1
I was thinking about my upcoming wedding (June 27th and I expect gifts from all of you) and the nice weather brought about thoughts of coasters. I figured it would be fun to narrow down a list of coasters that would be good to get married on. I have my ideas on some good ones, but lets find out some critera to start off with. Now I’m not actually getting married on a coaster, but a guy can dream right.

This is going to be more of an introduction posts to get some critera out there for the park and coaster that I “will” be married on. A few things I thought about were capacity, restraint style, seating arrangment, station design and size, and the overal coaster design to account for roughness, height, inversions, and older person rideability. Any other ideas on what we could include in the list of things to consider?

Well, congratulations Nate!
The CI Cyclone, as you have pictured, probably gets chosen the most but that’s certainly not a coaster for everyone…especially for the poor soul who gets the back seat!
Maybe something like the Santa Monica West Coaster at Santa Monica Pier in California. It has big Morgan trains, doesn’t go very fast, and overlooks the Pacific Ocean. Reserve the ride at sunset and I think it would make a great wedding ceremony!

Gotta take into account the length of the ride, or at least the length of the lift hill so that there’s enough time for the minister to do his thing.
I think you’d have to rule out looping and inverted coasters since you’d want to be kind of close to your bride. Talon would definitely be out.
An ACE Coaster Classic that has those bench seats with no divider would probably be the way to go. Something like Geauga’s Big Dipper. Only one that’s still standing. Here’s a list of them all: http://rcdb.com/ir.htm?category=107
You’d also have to consider what kind of coaster your bridal party could handle. Sure would stink if the best man’s too scared to be there for your big moment. Another reason to go with an old woodie.
Kevin, does the minister actually marry people while the coaster’s running? I’ve never put so much thought into this, but it would make more sense to me, for the ceremony to be in the station. Then the ride starts immediately after the couple’s married.
I’m pretty sure they do it in the station. If they had the coaster running, it would be pretty tough to focus on the ceremony!
True guys, I’m an idiot.
If it were me i would probably have to go with the Phoenix at Knoebels. Its not to high or to fast but a lot of fun. Congratulations and good luck!!!
Part 2 should be coming out soon along with some of the considerations you guys have pointed out. The question of doing it in a station or stopping on the lift will be an interesting on.
Leave your response!
