Pimp my Ride
It certrainly does seem that Six Flags is taking their older rides and redoing them, much like the “famed” MTV show Pimp My Ride. The best part here is that the title is so apporiate for the amusement industry. Six Flags has three coasters under their belt that have gone or are undergoing a transformation of sorts.
X, now X2 was the first to be done with new trains, new paint, and new elements. Medusa at Six Flags Great Adventure is getting new paint and possibly some other things. The final one in the bunch is Superman: Ride of Steeel at Six Flags New England. The world class coaster has gotten a new paint job, new trains (with speakers!), and probably some other odds and ends. Instead of investing in new rides Six Flags has gone back and tried to make great rides better. In the case of X2 it appears to have worked. We will see with the other coasters. The Texas Giant might be the next coaster to undergo some drastic changes.

The title made me laugh. It’s so true though.
If Six Flags does invest in new coasters, there the same types of coasters that we’ve been seeing for the past 10 years. We’ve yet to see a revolutionary ride from Six Flags since X.
I doubt we will see anything ground breaking from a non-theme park. We will get some great coasters, but not new types of coasters. I would think that Disney or Universal will be the next to roll out something new.
After reading the article about Premier. I’d say one possible area innovation could come from is their company. Otherwise I agree, their seems to be a type of coaster suited for everything now. And there are plenty of great rides that exist already that just need some “pimping” or maybe just plenty of new wheels on hand.. Intamin…
