Disneyland Resort Update
I have a little bit of an update on what’s going on around the Disneyland Resort lately, and some information on what will be going on at Disney’s California Adventure in the years to come.

Lets start with the Golden Gate Bridge in Disney’s California Adventure. The bridge will cease to be seen sometime next year when the entire Sunshine Plaza is closed off and rethemed.
Storefronts like these will be replaced with storefronts such as..
Western shop façades
* Mortimer Market — Disney’s original name for Mickey Mouse before his wife, Lillian, persuaded him to change it
* Carolwood Trains, Craft & Hobby — Name of Disney’s miniature railroad in the backyard of his Hombly Hills home
* Horace’s Pawn Shop — Animated horse friend of Mickey Mouse and boyfriend of Clarabelle Cow
* Julius & Sons Tailors — Animated cat considered Disney’s first regularly recurring character
* Clarabelle’s Corner Café — Animated cow friend of Minnie Mouse and girlfriend of Horace Horsecollar
Eastern shop façades
* Oswald’s Gas & Oil — A pre-Mickey Mouse animated rabbit created by Disney
* Seward’s Five & Dime — Early Disney animation studio in Hollywood
* Doc Sherwood Apothecary — A retired doctor in Disney’s hometown of Marceline, Mo., who paid the young artist to draw pictures of his horse, Rupert
* Kingswell Camera — Early Disney animation studio in Los Feliz
* Elias & Co. Dept. Store — Disney’s middle name and the name of his father
Thanks to the L.A. Times for this information. That article can be seen here.
This, as you may recognize is the Golden Dreams theater. A neglected, poorly attended, and fairly boring show. As you may or may not know, this show will be replaced by a Little Mermaid attraction in 2011. The Golden Dreams theater will close to the public tomorrow, and remain open only to school groups until Spring of next year. Then removal, and construction will commence.
Speaking of removals, the Maliboomer (S&S Drop Tower seen to the right hand side of the Ferris wheel) will cease to exist sometime in 2011. The ride will be completely dismantled by the end of 2011.
California Screamin’ will also close this month until December of this year. The queue and station will be rethemed, as will the rest of this area of the Paradise Pier.
A couple of things to mention that are going on over at Disneyland.
These types of walls were up all over the park, summer is certainly over. This particular wall encircled many of the PeopleMover supports – perhaps these walls have to do with more than simple “beautification”?
There was a large wall encircling not only the Haunted Mansion but the path that walks directly past it’s perimeter gates. I suppose this would make sense if they are starting on the outside gates first. The ride will re-open on September 26th.
This sign is brand new, and looks pretty great if you ask me.
Speaking of signs..
The “Space” in the Space Mountain sign has burned out. Leaving the sign to state simply “Mountain”.
I hope you have enjoyed this update, as it will be the last from Disneyland for a good month or two. My annual pass expires tomorrow, and it may be a couple months before I renew it.
Please remember that while most of the information in this post is accurate it is all subject to change at any given time. I will do my best to keep you update on the project status as time goes on.
