Kennywood sold
Yes, you read that headline correctly, Kennywood and all of the other parks the family owns has been sold to a spanish firm. “The Kennywood experience — as visitors have come to love and expect — will continue. Nothing will seem different, even to the folks working at the parks. Existing management and staff will remain in place,” Harry Henninger, chairman of Kennywood Entertainment, said in the news release. You can read the whole thing here.
I hope that quote stays true. This is sad news because there are not many family owned parks left, and from what I have heard, Kennywood is just perfect. The spanish company that bought the parks already owns parks in Europe and is now moving into the U.S. I can only hope that they keep Kennywood as a classic.

This utterly blows.

^ True that..
I can only see this as a bad thing for now.. Albeit I haven’t been to the park, but Kennywood just wont be the same with new owners.
Do we know why this is happening?

I’m pissed. Kennywood is Kennywood. It should stay that way…

I just went to kennywood and loved the park, going to cedar point it was a nice change going to a laid back park with alot of trees, i am hoping that nothing happens to it, it is one of the bests parks in my opinion because it is so different than others, the worst possible thing that could happen if they tried to make it a huge mega park

I have been to Kennywood many times. I live near it.
Personally, I wouldn’t mind if they “extended” the park. After going to Cedar Point, Kennywood seemed really wimpy and the rides weren’t as much as a thrill.
I say, keep everything the way it is now, and then extend the park with some bigger mega rides. They have technically already did this with “old kennywood.”

I could be wrong, but I believe a big part of the reason for this is because the newer generations of the family aren’t interested in the family business. The new owners have said that nothing will change, but I don’t believe them.

Nothing may change in the beginning….but gradually it will. They will make one small change after the next and when you look back ten years from now you wont even realize that the new owners have indeed changed kennywood from what it used to be…..that is how the big firms do it when they say they will “keep it the same”. They never do!
^ In response to you Ed….Kennywood was never eant to be a mega-coaster park its a park that prides itself on its darkrides…..which is a rare breed now-a-days!

I love that it has been sold time to update and expand

I have been going to Kennywood all my life, and I’m tired of riding the same rides. Its time for this park to grow. Keep everything the way it is now, but as far as that new land use that land wisley. Fix it up. EXSPAND. Kennywood needs more thrill rides, more scary bigger roller coasters, and more food. If they do that then this park is set. But when they do this. They better not take out the thunderbolt or the phantoms revenge or jackrabbit. Those 3 roller coasters are really special.
