Rain, rain go away so I can ride my coasters today?
I like to think that a little rain wont stop me from enjoying my day at the local amusement park. But I have seen a growing trend among Cedar Fair parks that may cause me to check the forecast before heading to the regional Cedar Fair park for the day.
I think there is an un-spoken line of thought that a few drops of rain wont majorly alter my coaster riding experience – with the exception of being hit by oncoming rain at 120 miles an hour, the few who have experienced this I’m sure have nothing good to say about the experience.
Point of this being, why is it that Cedar Fair “Shuts down the park” at the first signs of rain. Yes they have gone to the extreme of closing rides because it looks like it’s going to rain. Now if this isn’t completely ridiculous I’m not sure what is.
I know that a decent number of us (being enthusiasts) have had our fun filled days cut short at the sudden falling of rain. And to make it worse, Cedar Fair seems to be getting more and more nazi about this every day. I remember the days when there needed to be a good steady downpour for them to start shutting things down. But now all they need is a little precipitation to shut down all rides with the exception of the bumper cars.
The reason for this, I don’t know. But whatever the reason may be, it has definitely gotten a tad annoying to be interrupted riding some of the great coasters at Cedar Point when you feel a drop of rain hit your forehead. I can only hope that this doesn’t become a trend at amusement parks worldwide, and that it remains an obnoxious trend of Cedar Fair only.

I worked at CP a few years back and we never would close a ride for rain unless it was a very hard rain or if lightning was within 10 miles.
I wonder if this has to do with the Magnum incident this spring. They did blame rain.
